Location

If you are keen to discover Sicilian wines or are already in the know, you will no doubt be more than impressed by this historical estate dating back to the 17th century near the confines of the Sughereta di Niscemi Nature Reserve. Set well off the beaten tracks and deep in southeast Sicily, a dignified collection of buildings forms the Feudi del Pisciotto winery. It also houses the Palmento di Feudi Restaurant spread out over unspoilt rolling countryside with 44-hectares of vineyards fanned out over rolling slopes below.

Layout

Ten splendid hospitality rooms have been renovated in the oldest wing of the property’s antique Palmento. There are six Classic Rooms, two Superior Rooms, and a Junior and a Prestige Suite to choose from. These are scattered around this central building in the levels with access to a huge panoramic terrace.  The lower levels artfully keep the sharp sunlight at bay.

Simple in style, the rooms stylishly incorporate bare stone, or roughly plastered sand-colored walls, and hand-made terracotta tiled floors. Italian design pieces, Caltagirone ceramics and contemporary lighting and furnishings are de rigueur.  Together, they all enhance the minimalist interior design. Bathrooms are equally minimalist with huge rain showers and shiny chrome fittings. Then there are the deeply luxurious linens, bathrobes and exotic Ortigia bath products.

• From the outset, one can appreciate how the Feudi del Pisciotto has infused a blast of modernity into ancient wine making traditions, completely restoring the winery to its original 17t-century condition virtually intact. We learn that the process of the wine making at winery dates to ancient Greek and Roman times when a plant called Palmento was used for the pressing and the vinification of the grapes. As the story unravels from harvesting the grapes to transferring them to the fermentation tanks, so does a fascinating insight into past and present.
• Refined hospitality runs throughout the winery. It ranges from the triumphant breakfast-spreads made with local breads of ancient Sicilian grains, jams and preserves, freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices, cheeses and dairy products from Ragusa. The moments of relaxation extend to the wellness area paired with Turkish Bath, sauna, herbal tea corner and reading in the shade, or walking in the nearby vineyards. In the summertime the panoramic swimming pool overlooking the valley invites you to bathe under the warm and brilliant Sicilian sun.
• But the hospitality at Feudi del Pisciotto would not be complete without the Restaurant Il Palmento di Feudi and the Cooking School developed in collaboration with Le Cirque restaurant of New York. The restaurant is carved out of ancient beams and columns. It overlooks the scenic barrel room below through a transparent crystal floor.
• Il Palmento di Feudi proposes a gourmet experience of Sicilian ingredients, which are plentiful, thanks to the favorable location of the estate in which sea and land bring out the best of the island’s produce. It is a memorable experience.
